Just A Teacher

My name is Lexi. I teach high school math in Alabama. I have taught for 6 years. I have been to 3 different schools, 2 different districts and taught 5 different content classes. I have an Associate’s Degree in General Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education and a minor in Education and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I have been a writer for Alabama’s AMSTI, all while being a wife, mother, sister and teacher.
Why I started this blog
I am a teacher.
I am not perfect.
I don’t have all of the answers.
I still have hard days, but I love my job.
Is it unfair sometimes? Sure.
I believe that their are things wrong with our education system. I believe that some people are meant to be teacher and that some people aren’t. I also believe that those last two sentences can both be true at the same time.
I love hearing from other teachers on social media, but sometimes it can be such a negative space. Because we are human beings it can be hard to ignore all of the things wrong with our profession, our schools and how society views us.
I find myself being discouraged and uninspired when all I see is the negative side of being a teacher and being in our education system.
I wanted to start a blog that helped teachers not feel so alone.
I wanted to start a blog to inspire teachers to be the best they can be, even in tough situations.
I wanted to share stories from other teachers that would make us not feel so alone and maybe make us laugh at the same time.
I wanted to help teachers figure out things that experienced teachers already know so they don’t have to go through the same struggles.
I wanted to start a blog to serve teachers who serve their communities unselfishly everyday.
Goal of JUST A TEACHER blog
This blog shares my own experiences as a teacher, how I maximize my time at school and enjoy my time at home. It contains content to support teachers and provide resources to make life a little bit easier.
Just a Teacher
How many times have we heard that?
“Oh, he’s just a teacher.”
“All she does it play with kids all day at school.”
“They could be doing so much more with their lives, but they are just a teacher.”
JUST a teacher. Are you kidding me?
We get to mold the future. We get to welcome these excited – wide eyed kids into our room everyday. We get to save some of them from tough home situations. We get to inspire them to complete their goals and attain their dreams. We are so much more. Whoever says we are JUST teachers has no idea the power we have.
Together we can change the world, the education system, inspire one another and share our experiences with those who say we are JUST A TEACHER.
